LOCTITE 565

Main features

  • Controlled-Locking Thread Sealing
  • High-Pressure Pipe Sealability
  • High-Viscosity Paste Application

Product Description

LOCTITE 565 is a controlled-torque anaerobic methacrylate paste for tapered metal pipe threads and fittings, combining high viscosity with low cured locking strength. The white to off-white material cures when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces. At 25 deg C, typical specific gravity is 1.1 and typical Brookfield RVF viscosity is 175,000 to 525,000 mPa s with spindle 7 at 2 rpm. In an ASTM D1599 pressure test, 3/8 in NPT steel pipe tees and plugs pre-torqued to 27 N m and cured for 24 hours maintained sealability at 207 bar (3000 psi). Typical breakaway torque after 72 hours at 22 deg C is 5 N m on 3/8 NPT steel pipe tees and plugs by ASTM D6396.

Key features

  • Controlled locking strength: Low-strength anaerobic cure locks and seals close-fitting metal threaded connections.
  • High-pressure sealability: 3/8 in NPT steel pipe assemblies cured for 24 hours were successfully sealed at 207 bar in an ASTM D1599 test.
  • High-viscosity application: Typical Brookfield RVF viscosity is 175,000 to 525,000 mPa s at 25 deg C with spindle 7 at 2 rpm.

Applications

Locking and sealing tapered metal pipe threads and fittings.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Thermal Conductivity
Thermal conductivity describes the ability of a material to conduct heat. It is required by power packages in order to dissipate heat and maintain stable electrical performance. Thermal conductivity units are [W/(m K)] in the SI system and [Btu/(hr ft °F)] in the Imperial system.
