LOCTITE 4203

Main features

  • Elastomer-Toughened Heat-Resistant Bonds
  • Fast Multi-Substrate Fixturing
  • Impact and Peel Resistance

Product Description

LOCTITE 4203 is a one-part, low-viscosity ethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive toughened with elastomers for bonds exposed to heat, humidity, flexing, or impact. Atmospheric moisture initiates cure, and typical fixture times range from 10 to 20 seconds on steel, aluminum, ABS, NBR, and G-10 epoxy under the stated conditions. The material's 150 to 600 mPa s viscosity matches thin 0.05 mm bond gaps. Grit-blasted steel lap shear reaches 21.2 to 21.7 N/mm^2 after a 24-hour, 22 deg C cure. Applications include bonding rubbers, plastics, and metals where heat resistance is required.

Key features

  • Elastomer-Toughened Bonds: The formulation adds flexibility plus impact, heat, and humidity resistance.
  • Fast 10 to 20 Second Fixture: Steel, aluminum, ABS, NBR, and G-10 epoxy fixture in 10 to 20 seconds.
  • Thin-Gap Instant Bonding: Viscosity is 150 to 600 mPa s for 0.05 mm bond gaps.

Applications

Applications include bonding rubbers, plastics, and metals where heat resistance is required.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
