LOCTITE 402

Main features

  • Low-Viscosity Instant Assembly
  • Fast Multi-Substrate Fixturing
  • Heat and Humidity Resistance

Product Description

LOCTITE 402 is a one-part, low-viscosity ethyl/allyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive for rapid bonding across metals, plastics, elastomers, and porous materials. Atmospheric moisture starts the curing process. At 23 deg C/50% RH, fixture time is 5 seconds on several substrates and 60 seconds on nitrile rubber. The uncured viscosity is 110 mPa s at 25 deg C. Complete chemical/solvent resistance develops after a minimum 24-hour cure. Cured bond data include 22 N/mm^2 lap shear on grit-blasted mild steel after 72 hours. Applications include wood, paper, leather, fabric, and common engineering substrates.

Key features

  • Low-Viscosity Instant Bonding: Viscosity is 110 mPa s at 25 deg C and 3,000 s^-1.
  • Fast Multi-Substrate Fixture: Several substrates fixture in 5 seconds under the stated conditions.
  • Heat and Humidity Resistance: The instant adhesive is formulated for thermal and humidity performance.

Applications

Applications include bonding metals, plastics, elastomers, wood, paper, leather, and fabric.

Chemistry Type
Ethyl / allyl Cyanoacrylate
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
