LOCTITE 279

Main features

  • High-Strength Thread Retention
  • Threaded and Cylindrical Bonding
  • Wide-Temperature Threadlocking Range

Product Description

LOCTITE 279 is a one-component red, high-strength anaerobic dimethacrylate adhesive for locking and sealing threaded connections. It also bonds closely fitting cylindrical components, giving one grade a defined role across threaded and retaining assemblies. The uncured liquid has a specific gravity of 1.12 and a viscosity of 600 to 700 mPa s by ISO 3104. On 3/8 x 24 grade 2 steel nuts and bolts, prevail torque reaches at least 10 N m after one hour and at least 17 N m after 24 hours at 22 deg C. Typical applications use the product from -55 to 150 deg C.

Key features

  • High-strength threadlocking: Locks and seals threaded connections where a high level of strength is required.
  • Dual assembly fit: Also bonds closely fitting cylindrical components for retaining applications.
  • Torque development: Prevail torque reaches at least 10 N m after one hour and at least 17 N m after 24 hours at 22 deg C on grade 2 steel fasteners.

Applications

Applications include locking and sealing threaded connections and bonding closely fitting cylindrical components in the stated -55 to 150 deg C operating range.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
