ELANTAS EA-87

Main features

  • 60 cP Curative Viscosity
  • 50-Minute FR-1046 Gel Time
  • Heat-Required Thin-Film Cure

Product Description

CONACURE EA-87 Hardener is a light-amber epoxy curing-agent component used with selected CONAPOXY resin systems for potting and encapsulation. At 25 deg C, the liquid has a typical viscosity of 60 cP and specific gravity of 1.0. With CONAPOXY FR-1046 Black resin, the system uses 18 parts EA-87 by weight per 100 parts resin and has a 50-minute gel time at 25 deg C; heat is required for cure in thin films. EA-87 is supplied as the standalone hardener component, and these processing and cured-property boundaries apply only to that resin pairing.

Key features

  • Curative Viscosity: EA-87 has a typical viscosity of 60 cP at 25 deg C.
  • FR-1046 Gel Time: The FR-1046 Black/EA-87 system has a typical 50-minute gel time at 25 deg C and uses a 100:18 resin-to-hardener ratio by weight.
  • FR-1046 Thin-Film Cure: Heat is required to cure the FR-1046 Black/EA-87 system in thin films.

Applications

Curing-agent component for selected ELANTAS epoxy potting and encapsulation systems.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
