DOWSIL RSN-0233

Main features

  • 99% Solids Flake Resin
  • 500 cP at 140 deg C
  • 21-Month Usable Life

Product Description

DOWSIL RSN-0233 Flake Resin is a 100% silicone, silanol-functional solid resin used as a binder or co-binder in powder and liquid coating formulations. Typical properties include 99% solids, 1.32 specific gravity at 25 deg C, and 500 cP melt viscosity at 140 deg C. The resin is used to improve heat stability and weatherability in powder coatings and to provide initial and hot hardness in high-temperature coatings. It can also be blended with silicone or solvent-based organic resins to improve hardness or film properties. The product has a 21-month usable life when stored at or below 30 deg C in the original unopened container.

Key features

  • Silanol-Functional Silicone Binder: The 100% silicone flake resin is used as a powder-coating binder or co-binder.
  • About 99% Solids Content: Typical specific gravity is about 1.32.
  • About 500 cP Melt Viscosity at 140 deg C: The value characterizes the resin in its molten processing state.

Applications

Binder or co-binder for heat-stable and weatherable coatings; high-temperature coatings; silicone- and organic-resin blending.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
