COOLTHERM SC-6717

Main features

  • 17,000 cP Resin Viscosity
  • 8 to 24 Hour Room-Temperature Cure
  • 19.7 kV/mm Dielectric Strength

Product Description

CoolTherm SC-6717 is a red silicone resin component used with CoolTherm SC-6731 hardener for solvent-free RTV potting, encapsulating, and coating of electrical and electronic components. Typical resin viscosity is 17,000 cP at 25 deg C. Documented SC-6717:SC-6731 ratios of 100:0.1, 100:0.5, and 100:5 by weight provide working lives of 6 to 8, 2 to 3, and 1.5 to 2 hours, respectively, with corresponding room-temperature cure times of 24, 12 to 16, and 8 to 12 hours. Typical cured properties for the documented system include 0.3 W/(m K) thermal conductivity, 60 Shore A hardness, and 19.7 kV/mm dielectric strength.

Key features

  • Resin viscosity: Typical SC-6717 resin viscosity is 17,000 cP at 25 deg C.
  • Ratio-controlled processing window: Mix ratios from 100:0.1 to 100:5 by weight provide working lives from 1.5 to 8 hours and cure times from 8 to 24 hours at 25 deg C.
  • System dielectric strength: Typical cured dielectric strength of the documented SC-6717/SC-6731 system is 19.7 kV/mm.

Applications

Potting, encapsulating, or coating electrical and electronic components when SC-6717 is combined with SC-6731 hardener.

Red Liquid
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
