ARALDITE CY8043

Main features

  • 23 to 26% Bromine Content
  • 3,000 to 4,000 cP at 25 deg C
  • Flame-Retardant Casting Formulation Resin

Product Description

ARALDITE CY 8043 is a brominated epoxy resin for flame-retardant electrical and electronic casting formulations. It is a yellow-to-light-brown resin with approximately 3,000 to 4,000 cP viscosity at 25 deg C, 23 to 26% bromine, and 0.42 to 0.46 eq/100 g epoxy content. Flash point is approximately 185 deg C. Applications include filament winding, casting and encapsulation, wet lay-up laminates, and adhesive formulations where this brominated epoxy resin is used as a formulation component.

Key features

  • 23 to 26% bromine content: The exact grade contains 23 to 26% bromine.
  • 3,000 to 4,000 cP viscosity: As-supplied viscosity is approximately 3,000 to 4,000 cP at 25 deg C.
  • 0.42 to 0.46 eq/100 g epoxy content: Epoxy content is 0.42 to 0.46 eq/100 g.

Applications

Filament winding, casting and encapsulation, wet lay-up laminates, and adhesive formulations.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
