Product Description

3M Adhesive Sealant 740 UV is a one-component, moisture-curing silane-modified polymer adhesive sealant for bonding and sealing dissimilar materials in vehicle and architectural panel joints. The paste is applied at 5 to 35 deg C and has a typical tack-free time of 40 to 60 minutes at 23 deg C. It remains elastic after cure, with typical Shore A hardness 30 by ASTM C661 and 125% elongation at break by ASTM D412. Long-term temperature resistance spans -40 to 90 deg C for exposures of days or weeks. Water-based paint can be applied while wet after checking application-specific compatibility.

Key features

  • 40 to 60-minute tack-free time: The typical interval applies at 23 deg C; moisture cure progresses separately at more than 3.5 mm per 24 hours at that temperature.
  • Shore A 30 cured hardness: Typical ASTM C661 hardness accompanies 125% elongation at break by ASTM D412.
  • Paintable while wet: Water-based coatings are compatible, but each paint should be checked in the intended application.

Applications

Panel sealing and bonding on trucks, trains, trailers, and specialty vehicles; architectural panels.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
