Product Description
Scotch 48 Thread Sealant and Lubricant is an unfused PTFE fluorocarbon film tape for sealing and lubricating threaded connections. The milky-white, conformable film wraps directly around the threads without liquid dispensing or curing. Typical film thickness is 3 mil, tensile strength is 5.9 lb/in, and elongation at break is 26%. Typical temperature stability extends from -268 to 260 deg C; ventilation is required above 204 deg C because the film can release toxic fumes. Shelf life is five years from manufacture when kept in a clean, dry location at 70 deg F and 40 to 50% relative humidity.
Key features
- 3 mil unfused PTFE film: The conformable dry tape provides both the sealing and lubrication layer around threads.
- Typical -268 to 260 deg C film stability: Use above 204 deg C requires ventilation because PTFE film can release toxic fumes.
- Five-year storage life: Shelf life runs from manufacture at 70 deg F and 40 to 50% relative humidity in clean, dry storage.
Applications
Thread sealing and lubrication, including high-pressure oxygen-line use within the manufacturer's documented conditions.
