3M 4693

Main features

  • Approximate 20-Minute Open Bond Time
  • Polyolefin and Engineering-Plastic Bonding
  • Brush-Applied Room-Temperature Adhesive

Product Description

3M High Performance Industrial Plastic Adhesive 4693 is a solvent-based synthetic-elastomer adhesive for bonding polypropylene, polyethylene, TPO, and other plastics. Brush application provides a uniform coating, with an approximately 20-minute open bonding range for joining coated surfaces as the adhesive dries at room temperature. Porous surfaces may require a second coat after the first becomes dry to the touch. Supported plastics also include ABS, PMMA, nylon, polyester, and rigid polystyrene. The finished bond resists water, sunlight, weathering, and cleaning solutions, while the non-yellowing formulation is intended for assemblies exposed to ultraviolet light.

Key features

  • Polyolefin bonding: The adhesive bonds polypropylene, polyethylene, and TPO in addition to several other plastic types.
  • Approximately 20-minute open range: The coated surfaces have this open bonding interval before joining.
  • Brush-applied coating: Porous surfaces may need a second coat after the first is dry to the touch.

Applications

Plastic-part bonding and repair in industrial assembly and MRO applications.

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
