3M 4491

Main features

  • Low-Viscosity Spray Application
  • Optional Heat-Cure Processing
  • Water, Fuel, and Oil Resistance

Product Description

3M Nitrile Industrial Adhesive 4491 is a solvent-based nitrile adhesive for flexible bonding of vinyl extrusions and sheeting, fabrics, leather, foam, and many plastics. Its low-viscosity formulation is intended for spray application and dries at room temperature; optional heat curing can increase physical properties. Finished bonds resist weathering, water, oils, fuels, many solvents, and plasticizer migration. Spray coating and flexible bond formation support decorative vinyl attachment to cabinets, wall linings, and flooring, as well as rubber and vinyl floor assemblies.

Key features

  • Spray-applied nitrile adhesive: The low-viscosity liquid can be coated onto vinyls, plastics, fabrics, leather, and foam.
  • Optional heat curing: Room-temperature drying forms the bond; subsequent heat curing can increase physical properties.
  • Fluid and weather resistance: Finished bonds resist water, oils, fuels, many solvents, plasticizer migration, and weathering.

Applications

Cabinet decorative vinyl bonding; wall lining and flooring; rubber and vinyl floor bonding.

Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
